Kloof
General Information
Kloof is a leafy, green and quiet small town situated in the greater Durban area of the eThekwini region of KwaZulu-Natal. Lush and beautiful, Kloof has an earthy slightly upper-class vibe to it.
Extending from the top of Field’s Hill and bordering Winston Park, Gillitts and Hillcrest, Kloof forms part of the famous annual Comrades Marathon route. The Comrades Marathon is an ultra-marathon run between Durban and Pietermaritzburg every year since 1924.
Kloof is home to the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve in which the Kloof Gorge is located. The reserve has numerous rock climbing and hiking routes which are at beginner and expert levels. Providing breath-taking views across the gorge and forest, the reserve is a must-see when in the area. The Krantzkloof Nature Reserve is a good example of grasslands combined with coastal forest. There is an abundance of wildlife to be seen including bushbuck, duiker, rock hyrax and mongoose. There is also over 200 species of birdlife recorded. Picnic areas within the reserve are great spots for a relaxing family day out.
Kloof is a predominantly English speaking area with quaint shopping centres and local art centres. The renowned Valley of 1000 Hills tourism exploration route starts at Kloof.

Activities
The prestigious Kloof Country Club has a brilliant 18-hole golf course popular with locals and visitors alike. Combining an excellent dining experience, conference facilities and a first-rate golf course, the country club’s facilities are unmatched in the area.
The old railway station closed in the 1970’s is now a popular pub and eatery – a great local treat. The Umgeni Steam Railway operates from here with day trips on the first and last Sunday of every month, as one of South Africa’s oldest functioning railway tracks.
The Makaranga Botanical Garden has impeccably manicured lawns, waterfalls, ponds with Koi fish and glorious Japanese gardens – a must visit!
Take a drive on the Valley of 1000 Hills route through rolling hills with spectacular views.
