Driekwartblou Guest House is situated on the farm Schalkwykskraal on the banks of the Gariep Dam – the largest dam in South Africa. This guest house has a 180° view of the Gariep Dam. Eland, Wildebeest, Springbok and Zebra, to name but a few, comes right up to the Nature Reserve’s fence, a mere 50m from your unit.
Schalkwykskraal is a working farm where Rubicon Merino’s and Nguni cattle are bred using a Holistic method. A house that was built in the 1800’s was restored recently and divided into 4 modern units, of which 2 have self-catering option. Every unit has a private entrance and steps out onto a large stoep where the views can be appreciated any time of day or night. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets can be seen over the water of the dam.
Driekwartblou (meaning three quarters blue) got its name from the huge amount of blue that can be seen around the guest house in the form of water and air. It is a unique oasis in the Karoo where guests get the chance to be near to nature without having to travel great distances. We are situated 30km from the N1 (all tar roads) and halfway between Gauteng and Cape Town, making it the ideal stop-over going to the Argus or Two Oceans Marathon. Driekwartblou is less than 2km from the R58 to Port Elizabeth and East London.
