SANBI - Lowveld National Botanical Gardens - Educational tours, Conference & Wedding Venue and Restaurant in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga
The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) contributes to South Africa’s sustainable development by facilitating access to biodiversity data, generating information and knowledge, building capacity, providing policy advice, showcasing and conserving biodiversity in its national botanical and zoological gardens.
The Lowveld National Botanical Garden in Nelspruit, ‘grows’ magically out of the confluence of the Crocodile and Nels Rivers and offers up a magnificent array of nature’s treasures.
Before these two rivers converge in the Garden, they form spectacular waterfalls which can be viewed at the Cascades and the Nels viewpoints.
The Information Centre, housed in the Visitors’ Centre, provides information on various features, animals and celebrated trees (e.g. Trees of the year) that can be spotted in the Garden.

Tindlovu Restaurant
The fully licensed Tindlovu Restaurant is situated at the Visitors’ Centre and managed by an independent operator. It provides an opportunity for visitors to enjoy scrumptious meals while viewing the waterfalls.
The soothing sound of the waterfall in the background provides a relaxing ambience for enjoying sundowners after a long day.
The restaurant also serves as a function venue for weddings, media briefings and conferences.
Children's Play Area
The Children’s Play area was designed with the idea of creating an environmentally friendly area for children to play in. Natural themes, to create environmental awareness in children, were chosen. So far these themes have included ‘Life in the Leaves’ in the form of a jungle gym and ‘Soil is life’ in the form of a sandpit.
Two giant steel elephants are the latest addition to the children’s play area which enables healthy development for kids as well as an opportunity for them to engage in fun exercise, encouraging them to use their imagination and creativity to direct their own fun while navigating through the elephants.
The jungle gym and obstacle course unit provide hours of fun for children and allows us to accommodate even more children.
Weddings, Events & Conferencing
The picturesque Garden landscape offers the perfect setting for events such as weddings, gala dinners, birthday parties or any other special occasion.
The Garden has conference facilities that offer a seating capacity of 120 people (Biodiversity Education and Empowerment Centre) and 100 people (Visitors’ Centre Conference Room).
Bookings for the venues are essential.
