Wakkerstroom Tourism Association – “The Jewel of Mpumalanga”
Wakkerstroom has become a popular Tourism destination in Mpumalanga. The area was first inhabited by the SAN people around 1500 and experienced the first white settlements in 1853 with the town being established in 1859.
Part of the history of the town may be seen in its Historical cemetery which today covers graves from the first settlers and founders of the town to modern day residents as well as the graves of British soldiers killed in action in the area during the First and Second Boer wars.
The area offers a climate of warm temperate summers to cold and freezing winters. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities on an individual or group basis.
