Domein Doornkraal lies nestled between the Swartberg and Kammanasie mountain ranges near De Rust. This quaint Victorian village offers the most spectacular views in the Klein Karoo. It is situated at the Southern entrance to Meiringspoort, the portal between the Little Karoo and the Great Karoo.
At Doornkraal we’ve been making wine since the late 1800’s. This is what the farm has become famous for, but we also cultivate lucern, vegetable seed and pastures for sheep, cattle, pigs and horses.

Doornkraal Wines
Currently, several hectares of vineyards produce white wines, including two varieties of Chenin Blanc, and among the red cultivars there is Merlot and a variety of dessert wines, along with a sparkling wine called Tinkled Pink.
Piet le Roux is the third-generation winemaker of Domain Doornkraal, son of the owner Gerrit (Swepie) le Roux. Together with a team of experts, we offer a wide selection of wines.
Doornkraal's basic philosophy is that God gave man wine to enjoy and enrich life, therefore we make wines that are easy to drink and are typically Klein Karoo - to be enjoyed with our climate, natural beauty and food.
Doornkraal Accommodation
We invite you to come and see our work, meet our family, and spend the night in one of our cottages at the foot of the majestic Swartberge. The goodness of the earth combined with wholesome food and great company is an irresistible, magic potion that charms guests to return year after year, often becoming friends for life.
Our 2 Cottages are completely private and in the morning the knock at the door is your freshly made light breakfast delivered by a member of our lovely kitchen team. The light breakfast comprises of freshly baked goods from the farm’s main kitchen, seasonal fruit and yoghurt.
Breakfast times are arranged on arrival and housekeeping is performed after you have completed your breakfast.
Our cottages are self catering, but we are happy to provide meals if requested. Dishes are prepared from seasonal farm produce. Please order in advance.
We also offer a Braai Box with sides or a picnic. All you need to do is cook the meat, or some of the veggies (in case you are vegetarian).
We complement our guests with a bottle of our own Doornkraal wine (non-alcoholic option is of course also available) to sip on, while listening to the quiet, soothing sounds of the rural Klein Karoo or get lost staring at the expansive veld and night skies.

Klein Karoo Horse Adventures at Doornkraal
Our horses are well schooled Boerperd, Nooitgedacht and Cape Riding Horses, selected for temperament, sure-footedness and character.
Level of experience needed: Beginner Rider (totally new to riding); Intermediate Rider (starting to learn the ropes, but lacks confidence); Accomplished Rider (has some experience and can also trot and canter short distances); Expert Rider (can ride well).
All activities can be tailor made according to your preferences. We can go as extravagant as you wish! Picnics and sundowners can be arranged at least one day in advance as part of any riding activity.
