When we say painting, we just think of a beautiful work of color on a piece of canvas, but other than artists and art lovers many might not know that there are different styles of painting.
The different styles of painting are
Abstract - A simple definition of abstract is unreal. A painting that does not depict a person, place, or thing in the natural world. Abstract focuses on using unrelated colors and shapes to present a perception of the subject. The kids often end up doing abstract painting as they love playing with colors. They try to depict what they observe in nature but it ends up being abstract and only they can explain what it actually means.
Cubism - This style of painting began in France when Pablo Picasso began painting figures made up of cubes, cones, cylinders, spheres, and other geometric shapes. The painting gave an impression that it was cut into pieces and glued back together. Earlier less colors were used in such paintings mainly colors like brown, blue, and gray were used but then artists started using more colors into their cubism paintings. Although it looks complicated, it would be a nice style for kids to adopt at an earlier age.
Expressionism - This styles tries to capture and depict the emotions and meaning rather than reality. To express emotions, the subjects are often distorted or exaggerated and colors used are vivid.
Impressionism - Involves painting captured moments of everyday life like a photograph. Most of the pictures would involve outdoor scenes. The characteristics of it are the use of light and movement, open composition, intense colors, overall effects rather than details, and visible brush strokes.
Pointillism - A form of painting where dots of small and larger sizes are used to achieve various effects. This type of painting also emerged during the impressionist era. The dots can be placed randomly or in rows, placed singly, in groups, or overlapping to achieve the desired effect.
Realism - The art looks exactly the same as its real image. It is one of the most popular forms that is taught in painting lessons for kids.
Surrealism - This type of painting tries to depict the subconscious mind as manifested in dreams rather than the realistic image. It is characterized by an irrational and fanatic arrangement of materials.
Pop Art - Picking out mundane cultural objects, advertising, comic strips, etc.. and making it into an art. The Wikipedia explanation for pop art is, “in pop art, the material is sometimes visually removed from its known context, isolated, and/or combined with the unrelated material.â€
