Treat that muscular tension, remove built-up toxicity and address dry skin with some dedicated seasonal spa treatments. Here’s a look at some of the best winter treatments to keep you warm and relaxed as the temperatures drop.
This is a form of massage therapy whereby smooth, flat, heated stones (made from basalt) are placed on specific points on your body. Basalt is a volcanic rock that retains heat, so you will be kept incredibly warm throughout the treatment. The hot stones are accompanied by a massage using long strokes, circular movements, vibration, kneading and tapping. The stones are placed on various body parts, such as the spine, chest, face, palms, feet and toes.
What are the benefits of a hot stone massage? Relieving muscle tension; sleep promotion; stress reduction; and boosting immunity.
For the ultimate winter warmer treatment, why not try a traditional Arabic Rasul chamber treatment? The Rasul mud chamber is a cleansing treatment that combines the incredible health benefits of heat, steam and mud resulting in a relaxing, skin conditioning treatment. The aromatic chamber environment provides you with a heightened sensory experience that treats body and soul. It includes a body scrub in mineral-rich mud and a refreshing shower and steam.
What are the benefits of Rasul chamber treatments? Expelling of toxic wastes through perspiration; regulating the body temperature and invigorating the skin; metabolic benefits through the release of negative ions; muscle relaxation and enhanced circulatory system; lowering blood pressure and increasing heart rate; and overall relaxation.
If you’re looking for some foot pampering to warm you up this winter, then the fire and ice pedicure or foot treatment is a must-try. This comes in a variety of formats, but it generally includes soaking your feet in a luxurious combination of aromatic products that relieve the tension. This is followed by exfoliation and a moisturiser or butter that revitalises the feet. Your aching feet and legs are then invigorated through a hot and cold stone massage that leaves your feet feeling hydrated, soothed and restored.
What are the benefits of the fire and ice treatment? Boosts circulation in the feet; decreases pain, particularly for injuries; detoxifies the body; and reduces stress and tension.
If you can’t get away for some spa love, you can enjoy an at-home winter spa treatment with a range of great products. Light some aromatic candles and enjoy a luxurious mocha mud exfoliation session to remove dry skin cells. Draw a bath using some enriching bath milk, which can be accompanied by some detox charcoal soap to get rid of those unwanted toxins. And finish off with an aloe vera body scrub for complete exfoliation, followed by a quality moisturiser to trap in the hydration this winter.
Get in the kitchen and prep these three non-food recipes that smell amazing and are super effective.
You’ll need:
Virgin coconut oil,
Organic brown sugar,
Organic white sugar,
Cinnamon,
Pure vanilla extract,
Canned pumpkin puree,
Agave or maple syrup,
Peppermint essential oil,
Coarse sea salt,
Towels and washcloths,
2 chamomile tea bags,
Face oil (try argan).
Recipe 1 - face and body: Vanilla Bean Sugar Cookie Sparkle Scrub
2 Tbsp coconut oil, 2 Tbsp white sugar, 3 drops real vanilla extract
Recipe 2 - face/body: Pumpkin Spice Brown Sugar Scrub/ Mask
3 Tbsp pumpkin puree, 2 Tbsp brown sugar, dash of cinnamon, 1½ Tbsp agave syrup
Recipe 3 - Peppermint Foot Scrub
1 Tbsp salt, 1 Tbsp white sugar, 1 Tbsp coconut oil, 3 drops peppermint extract.
Fill 3 tiny bowls with the recipe ingredients. No need to stir them yet. Wet 1 washcloth, roll and place in freezer.
Boil a mug of water, soak chamomile tea for five minutes. Squeeze tea bag and remove. Cover mug and set aside. Place wet and used bags on a plate in the fridge.
Fill a bathtub with hot water, add 3-4 drops peppermint oil and a handful of salt. Add bubble bath if desired. Grab the peppermint scrub bowl and start polishing toes and heels. Then climb in and soak for 10 minutes. Warning: coconut oil makes feet slippery!
Step out and pat yourself dry. Grab the pumpkin bowl and start combining the ingredients with a spoon. Apply in a circular motion all over your body and face. Messy, yes, but it dissolves easily and won’t clog your drain. Best applied in the shower. Scrub into your skin, adding an extra layer to your face, then rinse off your body in the shower (not your face). Instead, grab the chilled tea bags, wrap up warmly and place the bags over your eyes and let the mask sit for another 5 minutes.
Then step into the shower. If you’re brave rinse with hot, followed by a 1-minute cold blast, then hot- and repeat for 5 minutes. That will get your blood flowing!
Apply the sugar cookie scrub all over but be delicate on your face.
Let it sit for 1 minute and rinse off lightly in a warm shower. You don’t want to wash off all the oil.
Dry off - your skin should be silky smooth and smell like cookies and pumpkin spice. Get the towel from the freezer and wipe down your face and pat your eyes with a cool cloth. Finish off by applying face oil, reheat the tea (add lemon and honey), wrapping up and chilling (or warming).
And remember, all spa treatments are 30% off until 30 September 2024.
