South Africa has always been seen as a cheap and affordable place for the budget traveler and attracts millions of backpackers from all over the world to its arrival ports every year. With great sunshine and animal wildlife one cannot help but to fall in love with this beautiful country. Probably the only thing to let this destination down is the price for a ticket but once you are there you are sure to reap the benefits of a cheap and affordable country.
One thing is for certain and that is that the local residents have capitalized on the idea of their country being a great product where they can earn a substantial amount of money. Everything from backpackers to animal sanctuaries, all along the coast has been set up. For the adrenaline junkie there is bungee jumping to shark cage diving. For the sorority crowd there are backpackers geared up to showing their guests a great time. For the humanitarians there are volunteer programs and special tours. For the animal lovers there are millions upon millions of hectares of protected wildlife reserves where you will be able to see all of the big seven.
One of the most popular routes seems to be that of the garden route where you travel between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and there is no shortage of things to do. Transport routes have already been set up between the different towns and cities making getting from one place to another so much easier.
Some places to look out for are Hemanus where you can do a spot of whale watching. Knysna has a beautiful lagoon and offers a very different and vibrant lifestyle. If you wish to ride an ostrich or visit some of the biggest caves in the world a trip Oudstroon will get those ticked off your to do list. The Crags and Storms River has everything to offer from bungee jumping to animal sanctuaries. One to look out for would be monkey land where they introduce humanized monkeys back into the wild. The sanctuary has about three hundred different monkeys with nine different species. The monkeys come from family homes, circuses and the likes of Hollywood. Port Elizabeth has the Addo Elephant Park, the third biggest game reserve in South Africa, which is home to hundreds of elephants so if you are looking for an up and close encounter this would be the place to visit.
By far South Africa has to offer the best value for money when looking at the all round cost off the trip and in many organizations you will find that their money is supporting the locals and animals. So by you having a good time everyone benefits!
